Best Value first with procurement policy

Baw Baw Shire Council has put steps in place to ensure best value when purchasing by updating its procurement policy.

The procurement policy ensures Council’s purchasing is aligned with the its strategic objectives and achieves value for money.

Benefits include:

  • encouraging and supporting the use of recycled products
  • encouraging and promoting sustainable procurement
  • reducing the level of non renewable resources being used
  • minimising the waste generated during the life cycle of goods or services and maximising recycling
  • reducing the level of energy being consumed during the life cycle of goods or services
  • supporting the use of clean technologies for Council’s direct use, and for the use of its suppliers where possible; and sustainability evaluation criteria in procurement decisions.

“Procurement is an important part of business that Council implements on behalf of our community,” Mayor Diane Blackwood said said.

“Whether Council is building a bridge, undertaking road works or purchasing advertising space, it is important that our Procurement Policy is in place to ensure our contracts are awarded in an impartial, fair, ethical and transparent manner.

“It is important that our ratepayers know that we are using their money wisely and that we are getting the best outcome and value for our community.

“The policy and Council’s practices must meet statutory guidelines, provide savings on goods and services, make it easier for businesses to deal with Council and help to make the procurement process more efficient.

“I am confident that the updated policy will assist the Council to meet all of these requirements and will ensure that we are receiving good value for our ratepayers’ dollar.”
