The City of Cockburn has been awarded the WA Department of Training and Workforce Development, Training Awards ‘Employer of the Year 2011’ award at a ceremony last month.

Human Resources Manager Margot Tobin said a tight labour market means the City needs to ensure existing and new employees are well skilled to undertake roles serving the community.

"People are more engaged if they are learning and developing their skills, particularly transferable skills," she said.
