A fully accessible swing for children in wheelchairs is now being used in Campbelltown.
The Liberty Swing complements existing playground equipment at Hallinan Park, and further improves the area’s leisure activities, with the park located adjacent to Ingleburn Library and Community Centre.
Campbelltown Mayor Paul Lake said the Liberty Swing would bring smiles to the faces of wheelchair users, who are able to access the swing by locking their chair into place within an enclosure, which is fixed to a swing frame.
“The Liberty Swing enables people with a disability to experience the fun and freedom of a swing in the park, while helping to improve the quality of life for all members of our community,” Councillor Lake said.
“This important project further demonstrates Council’s ongoing commitment to the community and will provide new opportunities for wheelchair users and their carers.”
The Liberty Swing was one of a broad range of community projects throughout the Campbelltown Local Government Area funded by the Federal Government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.
To use the Liberty Swings, parents or carers need to have a Master Locksmith Association Key (MLAK), which is available from a number of locksmiths in the Campbelltown area.
