Councils welcome Crisafulli appointment

The Local Government Association of Queensland has welcomed the appointment of former Townsville deputy mayor David Crisafulli as Local Government Minister in the Queensland Cabinet.

LGAQ president Paul Bell said he looked forward to working with Mr Crisafulli to tackle the challenges and make good on the opportunities that local councils face.

"It is particularly pleasing to have a local government minister who understands first hand the challenges that local communities confront in a decentralised state such as Queensland,” he said.

Cr Bell thanked David Gibson, the new Police Minister and former Opposition local government spokesman, for his work with local councils and wished him well in his new portfolio.

"We also welcome the allocation of the important planning portfolio to two ministers, Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney and the new Assistant Minister for Planning Reform, Ian Walker,” he said.

"These portfolios will be key to our efforts to hold the Newman Government to its pledge to place greater power in the hands of local communities to determine their own future.”
