Parks Alive!

The Unley City Council supported local community groups and individuals in 18 different events across the Council area as part of this year’s Parks Alive weekend on March 30 and April 1.

Ballet in a park, jugglers at a playground, scouts and guides on a reserve and outdoor sports and activities were just some of the ways Unley celebrated its beautiful parks, reserves and open space network.

Parks Alive began as an annual State-wide initiative that focused on enlivening and connecting communities by getting people and activities back into their local parks.

Now in its fifth year the Unley community was invited to spring into action, and experience the best that their parks have to offer, with a wide range of events providing something for everyone.

Community groups such as local scouts, guides, bowls, croquet and tennis clubs, ballet and dance groups, potters guild, and many more invited the local community to ‘come ‘n’ try’ and experience something new.

Fitness experts and traders joined in the fun to encourage greater social and healthy linkages among our community.

Along with community events, a roving program of professional musicians, dancers, and entertainers toured the Unley open space network and entertained the crowd by bursting into song, taking up the guitar or dancing the salsa.

On Sunday 1 April the attendees were treated to a free sausage sizzle provided by the Rotary Club of Unley before enjoying the performers at Memorial Gardens, Unley Road.
