New technology is being introduced at the Albury Library Museum that will revolutionise the way that the Library does business. Cutting edge Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID) will provide many benefits to library customers and operations, bringing with it improved ways to process and manage the library’s collection, and improved collection security.
As part of RFID implementation, two new self service stations have been introduced at the LibraryMuseum. This will allow library customers to scan and borrow their chosen library books themselves, as well as renewing items they currently have on loan.
The new technology will provide self service to those customers who want it and staff service to those that need it and will reduce waiting times for customers who use the new self service stations.
The introduction of RFID technology will provide opportunities for library staff to move from behind the desk and be on the floor to answer questions and provide assistance where it is genuinely needed.
The aim is for staff to become more accessible and available to the library community.
This project required staff, with the assistance of volunteers, to tag the entire collection nearly 70,000 items over the past two months. This technology will make the onerous library stocktake a much speedier process.
Be among the first to check out your own library book.
Lavington Library will introduce self check out when the new library opens. This project has been jointly funded by the NSW State Library, Library Development Grants $75,000 and Albury City Council.
