The Broome Public Library, in Western Australia’s Kimberley, is celebrating the National Year of Reading with a series of events and programs that highlight both the importance and pleasure of reading. Amongst these is the Library’s first ever Readathon, set to run for the rest of the year.
Shire of Broome Manager Library Services, Jean Indermaur said that during the Readathon a member of the public would be invited to read one page of Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey at 10am on every day the library was open during 2012. Silvey’s book is the Western Australian winner of the National Year of Reading Collection.
Jean said, "This will be the first Readathon held in the Broome Public Library, so we’re encouraging residents who like having their voice heard or who just enjoy reading aloud to come down to the library and offer a few minutes of their time."
