Up until as recently as February this year, the future venue for the Mount Isa City Council Library was still in doubt, with a temporary library operating for number of months with limited services while Mount Isa City Council negotiated a permanent site.
Xstrata Mount Isa Mines has stepped in to provide a home for the library in their Rotary House building, which has been refurbished with fresh carpets and the creation of a spacious reading area. The library has now reopened with a full complement of services, including reinstatement of the popular Toy Library.
At an afternoon tea on the 26th of April, Council expressed its appreciation to Xstrata for providing the Council and community with the opportunity to house the library in the building. Council acknowledged the effort that had gone in to creating a conducive reading environment and the hard work that Library staff had undertaken to relocate the books, furniture and other equipment.
Above all, Mount Isa City Council was extremely happy to be welcoming the public through the doors of their new library.
