An all-new, all-inclusive playground was recently opened at Koshigaya Park in Campbelltown in New South Wales, with a focus on accessibility and interactivity.
According to the Mayor of Campbelltown, Councillor Anoulack Chanthivong, the new playground “…caters for children of all ages and abilities, provides a significant boost to our city’s key regional park, and is designed to meet the growing needs of local families.”
“Council is proud to deliver an all-inclusive playground at Koshigaya Park, with more accessible pathways and equipment designed for wheelchair users, as well as additional features for children with autism and special needs,” said the Mayor.
“Featuring more modern and interactive play experiences, the new playground is sure to be a popular attraction among youngsters.”
One of the most visible changes to the park is the introduction of a central play area, in place of the previous three separate play areas. Five new shade sails have been erected over the central play area to provide much-needed protection from the sun.
Other highlights of the new playground are the 6.5 metre climbing net, a whirly-go-round, a tandem bull rider, an eco plank sway bridge, a series of slides and swings and a twister net.
For toddlers a whole series of delights have been added, including a chimes music panel, a discovery animals barrel, a clock and mirror panel and a spring rocker. The fully accessible ‘Liberty Swing’, which was part of the previous playground and caters for children with physical disabilities, has been retained.
A sensory garden has also been established as part of the new playground, containing more than 100 new plants and providing an opportunity for children to explore the natural environment and have fun at the same time.
