Another step toward carbon neutrality

In another step towards achieving carbon neutrality, Maribyrnong City
Council has installed three solar systems at Maidstone Community Centre,
Maribyrnong Community Centre and Braybrook’s Cherry Crescent Preschool
Centre.

The five kilowatt solar PV systems will collectively
generate approximately 19,700kWh of electricity per year, equivalent to
the annual energy consumption of three houses.

The timely
venture will ensure the facilities are protected from the impact of
rising electricity costs and allow for resources to be directed back
into providing programs and services to community members.

“We’ve
made major inroads in the past few years to reduce Council’s energy use
and these solar installations will assist in our commitment to achieve
organisational–wide carbon neutrality by 2015,” said Councillor John
Cumming, Mayor of the City of Maribyrnong.

“These solar panel systems are generating clean electricity for our community,” said Cr Cumming.

The
initiative is part of Maribyrnong City Council’s Carbon Neutral Action
Plan that was developed in 2007 in response to climate change.

The Corporate and Community Carbon Neutral Action Plans are available on Maribyrnong Council’s website.
