The way in which business is conducted is changing at an increasingly rapid pace, with Internet-based technologies enabling lower transaction costs and access to new markets and business models.
Bundaberg Regional Council in partnership with the Wide Bay Burnett Regional Organisation of Councils (WBBROC) has embarked on a Digital Economy Support Strategy to assist local business operators come to terms with digital marketing technology.
A series of free workshops will demonstrate how marketing is shifting from traditional media channels to social media, YouTube and pay-per-click, amongst others, and how this technology can benefit business operators.
Bundaberg Regional Council Economic Development Portfolio Spokesperson Councillor Greg Barnes said, “Small to Medium Enterprises across the globe need to understand both the risks associated with the digital economy and the opportunities for them and their business model.
“For many businesses, the idea of maintaining a web presence seems too time consuming. The free workshops show people just how important and easy it is. The ‘Grow your Business Online’ series will educate businesses across the region on what a digital marketing strategy is, the key components, and how to apply this to their own business.”
The workshops are presented by Daniel Hunjas, Managing Director of Edge Marketing — a successful regional digital marketing company.
Under Daniel’s professional guidance, businesses will participate in a series of hands-on workshops covering website strategies, ranking strategies, digital marketing techniques and social media, all under the umbrella of creating an overall digital marketing strategy.
“I will be sharing the knowledge needed to execute a digital strategy without falling into the traps that a lot of businesses do, because they lack understanding of where they fit in the digital economy,” said Mr Hunjas. “With over 80 percent of all Australians now online, every business needs to consider a digital marketing strategy far beyond just having a website.”
Councillor Barnes said, “The National Broadband Network (NBN) roll-out has now been announced for Bundaberg in the second half of 2013, after a lot of hard work by Council and staff, and we now have an opportunity to assist our regional businesses to embrace and be part of the brave new digital world. It’s all part of Council’s goal for regional growth and to support local business.”
