As part of the City of Stirling’s community safety program, 14 new CCTV cameras have been installed in the Mirrabooka Town Centre, bringing the total number of cameras watching over the area to 19.
Funded by the Western Australian Department of the Attorney General under the Criminal Property Confiscation Grants Program, the cameras record in high definition 24 hours a day and are a combination of pan-tilt-zoom and fixed.
The new cameras bring the total number in the City’s CCTV network to over 265, which are registered on the WA Police Blue Iris database.
City of Stirling Mayor, Councillor David Boothman, said the City had already received multiple requests from WA Police for footage, including some that involved a serious assault.
“In the last two years the City-wide 24-hour camera network has assisted police in more than 165 investigations and has helped identify suspicious activities for police to further investigate.
“There is no question that cameras help reduce the number of unwanted incidents and prevent further ones from occurring,” said Cr Boothman.
