Goulburn Mulwaree Council is committed to creating a highly skilled and productive workforce.
This goal is achieved through continuous investment in human capital and encouraging education in areas of specific skill shortage.
In the past financial year, almost 20 percent of the Council’s workforce was involved in some form of professional development. These courses ranged from Certificate III through to Master of Business Administration.
Council’s Human Resources Coordinator Elise Jackson said Equal Employment Opportunity principles were always adhered to as Council develops its resources to contribute locally with high levels of productivity through education and training.
“Council believes in the concept of ‘growing our own’ which enables us to give back to the community and the people dedicated to our area.”
Ms Jackson said Council also hosts around six trainees or apprentices at any one time. This initiative enables youth in the community to enter the workforce, gain valuable work experience, obtain a recognised qualification and then give back to the community by utilising these skills in gainful employment.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council is currently looking at initiatives aimed at formally recognising the experience of older workers in the form of recognised qualifications. It is hoped this recognition will encourage workers to remain in the workforce longer, while acknowledging their skills and valuable contribution to the workforce.
