Randwick City Council Mayor Tony Bowen has officially welcomed three new staff members, Randwick TAFE students who are the first recipients of the Randwick Mayoral Career Start Program.
The new initiative, announced by the Mayor in November 2012, is boosting local employment opportunities and giving TAFE students the chance to work in the diverse and dynamic environment of local government.
Three students have commenced 12 months of employment at Randwick Council in sections relevant to their area of study and previous experience.
Councillor Bowen said the program is offering students a real boost in the important planning stages of their careers.
“The intrinsic value of education can never be underestimated. This program is providing relevant opportunities to students, and demonstrating our support for local education.
“Best of all, it’s giving students the chance to learn, and demonstrate their talents in the vibrant environment of local government.”
The Mayor hosted an afternoon tea for the three recipients of the Mayoral Career Start Program in July in the Lodge Room at Randwick Town Hall.
The program is funded from Council’s learning and development budget.
