Residents of Melville are being encouraged to join a new local community safety initiative, created to connect residents to their local police and council.
WA Police and Neighbourhood Watch WA have launched ewatch – an online safety initiative designed for the public and proudly supported by the Western Australian Local Government Association.
City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said ewatch was a fantastic use of modern technology, demonstrating how the digital world could be used in a positive and empowering way to fight crime and create a safer and more connected community.
“ewatch is a free service that gives subscribers regular email updates on crime trends and statistics, safety initiatives, emerging issues and specific events for their local area.
“The idea is the community will receive important crime prevention information and crime trends enabling them to take proactive action through being more involved, informed and connected to what is happening in their local area.”
As part of Safer Melville, the City of Melville provides the Community Safety Service (CSS), a highly visible 24 hour, seven day a week patrol service.
With someone available to talk to 24 hours a day, the CSS act as extra eyes and ears for the community and work closely with the WA Police, however they also rely heavily on residents and business owners to report suspicious activity.
