Three City of Greater Bendigo Early Learning Centres are providing children with healthy food options to help prevent childhood obesity.
As part of their involvement in the Healthy Together Children’s Achievement Program, Bendigo, Annie Galvin and Helen Jessen Early Learning Centres have had their menus accredited by the Healthy Eating Advisory Service to ensure they meet Australian Dietary Guidelines.
Healthy Together Bendigo, a partnership between City of Greater Bendigo and Bendigo Community Health Services, is aimed at improving people’s health where they live, learn, work and play by addressing the cause of obesity and lifestyle related chronic disease.
Director of Community Wellbeing Pauline Gordon said all childcare centres, schools and workplaces are encouraged to have their menus assessed.
“It is free to have the Healthy Eating Advisory Service assist your place of employment or education to evaluate your meal options and put together a menu based on healthy recipes and food ideas,” Ms Gordon said.
“To make this process easier, a series of free healthy eating training sessions will be delivered by Nutrition Australia as part of the Healthy Eating Advisory Service.
“The aim of the sessions is to help people realise the healthy choice can be an easy choice when it comes to meals and snacks at work or school and that it’s never too early or too late to change your eating habits.”
