The Mount Beauty community is working together to support local learner drivers gain their mobility and independence.
The Upper Kiewa Valley Lions Club and the Mount Beauty and District Community Branch of the Bendigo Bank recently joined forces to raise funds for the purchase of a car for the Kiewa Valley Learner-to-P-plates (L2P) Program.
L2P provides a car for practice with a licensed ‘mentor’ driver to help learners fulfil the requirements for their provisional licence.
Alpine Shire Council Manager Communities Kathryn Maxwell said the car would provide valuable assistance to Kiewa Valley learner drivers who may otherwise struggle to reach the required 120 hours of driving practice.
“We understand that it can be a challenge for some young people to access the money, support or vehicle needed to complete the minimum 120 hours of practice,” she said.
“It will be an extremely valuable asset for young drivers in the Kiewa Valley.”
The L2P Program operates across the Alpine Shire, assisting more than 25 young drivers to achieve their P plates each year.
