Shoalhaven City Council Senior Environmental Planner, Elizabeth Dixon has received the prestigious Louise Petchell Memorial Award at the Local Government Excellence in Environment Awards.
The Louise Petchell Memorial Award recognises individual achievement by a council officer or elected councillor.
Nominated by the Southern Councils Group, Ms Dixon has been the driving force behind many of Council’s policies, plans and projects dealing with environmental, sustainability and conservation issues.
Ms Dixon played an integral role in the formation of both Council’s Sustainable Shoalhaven Committee and Resource Energy Taskforce while also developing the organisation’s Climate Change Adaption Plan.
She also developed Council’s Renewable Energy Policy and the Sustainability Action Plan.
Director of Planning and Development Tim Fletcher said he was extremely pleased to see Ms Dixon recognised for her commitment to conservation and sustainability.
“Through hard work and commitment, Elizabeth has built a well-earned reputation as one of the leading advocates of best practice approaches to sustainability issues within local government.
“Elizabeth has proven herself as the driving force behind Council’s conservation and environmental policies and plans, all of which have made a tremendous difference to the local area.
“I certainly commend Elizabeth on her ongoing commitment to sustainability and congratulate her on receiving the recognition of her peers.”
Mr Fletcher said Ms Dixon had also developed a training module on adaptive management and resilience planning delivered to staff as part of the corporate responsibilities workshops.
Speaking at the Local Government Excellence in the Environment Awards, President of Local Government NSW Keith Rhoades congratulated Ms Dixon on the award.
“Over the last eight years Elizabeth has worked to progressively lift the profile of ecologically sustainable development and has been the driving force behind Council’s Sustainable Shoalhaven Committee, working effectively with councillors and the community in a variety of forums.”
