A R Bluett Memorial Award

The Trustees for the A R Bluett Memorial Award have announced that entries for this year’s award will open on 1 June 2014 and close on 31 July 2014.

The Awards, which are the ‘greatest accolade a Council can achieve’, recognise relative progress by member councils of Local Government NSW.

Being judged on relative progress means that irrespective of size or resources, each Council receives due consideration for their achievements, as evidenced by Tumbarumba’s award in 2013.

At a time when local government is under increasing scrutiny and pressure to reform, it is opportune for councils to reflect on their achievements and consider entering the awards.

“Too often the overall achievements of local government go unrecognised by the community, other levels of government and even some councillors and staff,” said Trust Chairman, Graeme Fleming PSM.

“The A R Bluett Award provides an ideal opportunity to help rectify this situation.”

The award process has been streamlined in previous years and now incorporates information from Councils Integrated Planning & Reporting (IP&R) documents.

There have also been some transition arrangements for Award categories, following the formation of Local Government NSW.

This generally sees city and regional councils in one group and rural councils in the other.

Further information in relation to the A R Bluett Memorial Award can be obtained from the Local Government NSW website www.lgnsw.org.au
