Park Swings to success

One of Logan City Council’s newest parks has been shortlisted alongside the best in the state.

At Parks and Leisure Australia’s Regional annual awards ceremony, Shailer Pioneer Park fended off fierce competition from the best parks in Queensland to claim the coveted Award for Excellence in the Parks and Open Space Development category.

The park will now vie for national glory at the National Awards in Cairns, scheduled for late August.

The awards will form part of the Parks and Leisure Australia National Conference.

Councillor Darren Power attended the regional awards at Brisbane City Hall and said the nomination was a fitting reward for the popular facility.

“Shailer Pioneer Park represents some of the best ideas in designing and building major outdoor play and recreation spaces.

“It caters for a wide range of ages and interests, features play equipment, a skate park, tennis courts, outdoor fitness equipment, barbecues and picnic shelters, as well as wide open space to run and play.

“Our community has known for some time that Logan’s parks are of a high-standard, now the rest of the state knows that as well.”

Parks, Health, Environment and Sustainability Committee Chair, Councillor Trevina Schwarz, congratulated Council’s Parks Branch on the achievement.
“Shailer Pioneer Park is just one example of the first-class developments in the city.

“Our community should be extremely proud to know that the parks they enjoy are regarded as some of the best in Queensland, and I expect, Australia.

“It is wonderful to see Council’s talented Parks Branch formally recognised by the industry; I’m looking forward to their next creation.”
