Artists are raiding the hard waste collection for Hornsby Shire Council’s Returned to Glory art exhibition that displays recycled art.
The exhibition showcases artworks that demonstrate the notion of resource recovery, taking waste products and transforming them into art.
“Recycling and reusing waste is an important activity that we encourage all Hornsby Shire residents to do and this exhibition touches upon the theme of recycling in a creative way,” Mayor Steve Russell said.
“As shown by the many outstanding artworks submitted, waste can be easily transformed into a new resource and I hope this inspires people to think about how waste in their household may have many other uses.
“By displaying works created by up-and-coming artists, Returned to Glory also supports local culture.”
The free exhibition will be held at the Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre in Hornsby until June 22.
The works on display have been selected from a large number of submissions and will be judged by a panel, with prizes awarded to the winners of each category.
More than $5,000 worth of prizes will be awarded across four categories: 3D/sculpture art, functional/wearable art, mixed media and youth art for entrants under 18 years.
Other prizes include the Cleanaway Award, the Hornsby Library Prize and the People’s Choice Prize.
