A glimpse of opening ceremony

Talented singers from Lake Macquarie and surrounds wowed crowds during a showcase of the vocalists who will perform at the Lake Macquarie International Children’s Games (ICG) opening ceremony.

The Mayor of Lake Macquarie, Councillor Jodie Harrison, said she was blown away by the performances at Charlestown Square and is looking forward to hearing the singers again as part of the full live show at the Games this December.

“These talented performers really demonstrated the high quality show we will experience at the Games opening ceremony.

“The excitement for the Games is building out in the community and I am thrilled to watch as it all comes together in the lead up to the event.

“Performances like those tonight remind us of how close we are to the main event.”

ICG Vocal Director and Session Vocalist for The Voice, Marty Worrall, said it was a tough decision for the panelists to select the final 16 vocalists from the 50 singers who auditioned for the positions available in the Games opening ceremony.

“We were looking for performers with beautiful tone, great pitch and a dynamic vocal range, as well as killer stage presence and an engaging performance.
“Turns out there is no shortage of amazing local talent, which made our job much harder.

“Ensuring we cast the right singers for the right performance and how they would fit in with the creative direction of the opening ceremony was the main focus of the judging process.

“We are happy with the quality and the mix, and the results were seen tonight.”

The free Games opening ceremony will be staged at Speers Point Park on Sunday 7 December from 5pm.

It will be in the style of the Olympics, with the parade of athletes, raising of the flag, lighting of the cauldron and top entertainment as was seen tonight.

The 2014 Lake Macquarie International Children’s Games will be held from 6-11 December.
