Parks and Leisure National conference*

Nationally renowned homegrown keynote speakers Tania Major, Glen Jacobs and Paul Hockey have been announced as speakers at Parks and Leisure Australia’s 2014 National Conference.

The announcement was made by Martin Lambert, the Queensland President of Parks and Leisure Australia and Cairns Regional Council Mayor Councillor Bob Manning OAM.

As a major industry event of the year, the annual conference attracts leaders and decision makers in the parks and leisure sector from around Australia and overseas.

The event will highlight the role the sector plays in protecting the Australian way of life and the wellbeing of all Australians through good policy, planning and provision.

Paul Hockey, was the first disabled person to climb Mount Everest from the north side in 2005.

In 2004 Tania Major became the youngest person elected to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC).

She was also named Young Queenslander and Young Australian of the Year in 2007.

Glen Jacobs has built and designed more than 300 mountain bike trails and racecourses across 20 countries.

All will contribute to this year’s National Conference programme and touch on how communicating, cooperating and collaborating have enabled them to succeed in their fields.

Parks and Leisure Australia represents private and public sector professionals working in urban and regional parks, recreation, sport and active and healthy communities.

The event is scheduled to be held in Cairns from August 24–27.
