Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson said the council has entered a new chapter in employment opportunities with official launch of The Work Shop training and recruitment center.
Mayor Jamieson joined representatives from Lend Lease and the Hornery Institute to officially launch The Work Shop training and recruitment centre based at the Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital site at Kawana.
The Work Shop has been co-funded by Sunshine Coast Council, the Australian Government’s Local Employment Coordinator Flexible Funding Pool, and Lend Lease Building.
“The Work Shop is only just getting into its stride, however in the first 56 days it has already received more than 1400 registrations from job-seekers and placed 81 into work on the hospital site.
“It’s just the beginning, jobs for both experienced trades people as well as unskilled apprentices are starting to flow.
“Large numbers of positions for electricians, plumbers, plasterers, you name it, will be on offer in the very near future for a variety of contracts around the hospital site.
“For many, the site will become the place they began – and completed – a new trade.”
A pledge was also signed by participants to the project, including Mayor Jamieson.
“I am proud to be part of the pledge-signing today and to acknowledge Sunshine Coast Council’s involvement in providing jobs and up-skilling a local workforce that will improve our region’s economic diversification and create an attractive environment for future investment and talent.”
