Longreach Regional Council recently launched a re-print of the Longreach Story. First published in 1987, the publication by Angela Moffat traces the history of the Longreach district from its prehistory through to 1986.
The pastoral development of the district began when William Landsborough and Nat Buchanan ventured into the central interior to behold what they believed to be their ‘promised land’.
The project to re-print the book started in January 2013.
Anna-Maree Moffat, Angela’s Daughter, approached Council to ask if they could assist in organising a reprint.
There were no more copies available despite a demand.
Mark Watt, Chief Executive Officer, asked Anna-Marie to write a letter requesting a re-print, but in the meantime he followed-up the original publisher.
Whilst re-print was impossible, Ligare Publishers, Sydney, were employed to re-produce the book from an original copy.
An original edition was scanned and converted to editable text, while the original photographs used were re-scanned overseas.
Additionally, the front cover was redesigned.
Council is quite happy to release the book as it represents a comprehensive history of the region.
In 2012, Longreach celebrated its 125th year and it is pleasing to see the vast changes to the town since its initial establishment in 1887.
