Funk comes to night markets

The Liverpool Night Markets have returned at Liverpool City Council with a great range of food, stalls and entertainment, including a special performance by the Funky Love Squad dancers, bringing disco back with their incredible stilt-dancing skills.

Following a large crowd at the July market, the August Night Market also had a variety of new stallholders and family-friendly entertainment on offer.

Highlights included disco-inspired stilt dancing from the Funky Love Squad, Local buskers performing popular tunes, a chance to try your hand at still-life drawing, and ceramics with Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre’s (CPAC) Clayhouse, beautiful floral arts and crafts from Khmer Women’s Group, plus story time and board games at the Liverpool Library’s pop-up branch.

Liverpool City Mayor Ned Mannoun is encouraging everyone to continue to turn out to support the Night Markets and enjoy our city after dark – and to bring a friend or family member along from outside the area to experience the city’s popular nighttime event.

“We had a fantastic turnout at last month’s Night Markets, despite the cold weather.

“It’s a great opportunity to catch up with friends and family and to show people how Liverpool is growing and changing.

“The Night Markets are fast becoming a much-loved event.”

The markets are held on the first Saturday of every month in Macquarie Street from 4–9pm and are part of Liverpool City Council’s plans to boost the city’s nighttime economy, making Liverpool a more exciting place to live and work.
