Teamwork brings refreshed website

Charters Towers Regional Council has launched its refreshed website.

The successful launch was the result of several months of solid work by members of an Internal Working Group set up for the task by Council CEO Mark Crawley.

The new-look website has been developed with members of the Internet Working Group in collaboration with the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) website development company, Resolute Information Technology.

Mark Crawley described the refreshed website and the process undertaken as outstanding.

“This is a great example of the working groups working well and provides a case for using this format for future works and implementing change within the organisation.”

Community response to Council’s refreshed website had been entirely positive.
“We promoted the launch as the date drew nearer, on our own Facebook page and in the local media.

“It was interesting to see a significant jump in the ‘likes’ for Council’s Facebook page around this time.”

Mr Crawley said the core motivation to refresh Council’s website was to better serve the community within the Council region.

“We now trust that the community will be able to find relevant information much easier with the new website.

“We have modelled the site on World’s Best Practice and introduced a ‘tile’ layout to guide inquirers to the relevant sections.

“We are quite impressed with how the new site has developed and hope that users can find the information they seek much easier.”

Website users will notice a totally new look and feel on Council’s website with more focus on providing quality information to the community in a simple and user-friendly environment.

The aim is for Council to have a more dynamic web presence to empower residents and attract visitors and investors to experience all that the Charters Towers region has to offer.

The website refresh was initiated as part of Council’s vision of ‘Exceptional Service for an Exceptional Community’.

Mr Crawley has also established a number of other working groups, which are working on a range of tasks in a number of important areas within Council including a Council Intranet site; a first for Council.

Other working groups are involved with Assets, Customer Service, Job Swap/Rotation, Change Management, Brainstorm Toolkit and Mapping.

Mr Crawley said some of the momentum for the establishment of the working groups resulted from staff involved with Local Government Managers Association’s (LGMA) Rural Management Challenge in 2013.
