Bridging the job gap

A state of the art industrial development in Serpentine Jarrahdale’s West Mundijong industrial area promises to deliver over 4,000 jobs during the construction phase and beyond, following the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s joint venture initiative with the Department of Agriculture and Food.

Recommended as part of Western Australia’s State Government Directions 2031 Strategy, the West Mundijong Agri-Precinct spans 131 hectares and will see the creation of 430 lots.

The completed development will offer sites for a diverse range of fields including agribusiness, general industry including manufacture/prefabrication of building products and materials, storage and logistics, heavy machinery servicing and sales, a transport and fuel depot, light and general industry, and warehousing.

Chief Executive Officer Richard Gorbunow said like every outer metropolitan growth Council, Serpentine Jarrahdale currently struggles to cater for residents locally when it comes to jobs.

“With the creation of 4,000 jobs, West Mundijong will deliver employment in so many different industries, including the employment created during the construction phase to develop 430 lots.”

In addition to the Department of Agriculture and Food’s involvement, Western Australia’s Department of Planning and Transport has been instrumental in the project, working with Shire officers in the planning stages and providing funding for the project, as staunch supporters of creating employment in this growing area, to deliver more jobs for the Perth marketplace.

“With great freight rail and road infrastructure in place, Serpentine Jarrahdale is more accessible than ever for Perth based residents.

“Our Shire has become one of the fastest growing in the nation, and with population, it is vital to deliver a sustainable community, developing social capital and delivering local jobs.”
