Fringe World on its way

The City of Fremantle Council has agreed to provide sponsorship to enable a ‘Fringe in Freo’ program of performances as part of Fringe World, 2015.

Fringe World Freo will use Fremantle’s Kings Square as its focal point and will run from 23 January – 22 February 2015.

Fringe World is an annual arts festival featuring artists and acts from a range of styles including circus, cabaret, comedy, music, dance, theatre, film and visual art.

Fringe World Perth is produced by Artrage (Western Australia) and typically is held over a four-week period.

In its inaugural season in 2012, Fringe World presented over 150 shows running across 30 traditional and non-traditional venues in central Perth.

The 2014 Festival incorporated 450 free and ticketed shows, to be presented at more than 60 venues.

As part of the agreement, there will be a mix of paid and free events on all days of operation.

The delivery of Fringe in Freo 2015 is expected to be the first step towards an increasing Fringe World presence in Fremantle in the coming years.

Based on the success of the Fringe World Perth program and the strong arts scene in Fremantle, Fringe in Freo is expected to be immediately successful, and to expand in scale in subsequent years.
