LGMA appoints new National CEO

President of Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) National Mark Withers has announced the appointment of new CEO, Lauren Oakey.

Formerly Manager Programs and Strategy, Ms Oakey has been acting as interim CEO.

“Ms Oakey brings broad experience from a range of organisations to this role including state government and the not-for-profit sector and the Board welcomes her appointment,” Mr Withers said.

Ms Oakey will guide the organisation through a new phase in 2015, in-line with the recently approved new five year strategic Federation Plan.

This includes identifying new opportunities for expanding membership and services to members, as well as a renewed focus on advocacy and research activities on areas of concern or interest for local government professionals.

In addition, the organisation will focus on a renewed partnership and cross collaboration opportunities with the LGMA’s sister organisations in the United States, New Zealand and the United Kingdom as well as colleagues in the Asia-Pacific.

“I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to lead an organisation that has been part of the local government sector for over 78 years’,” Ms Oakey said.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with our state and territory divisions to continue to provide new opportunities to advance the professional interests and development of all members.”
