Bush Poetry

Willoughby City Council has hosted an evening of bush poetry, ballads and music by the campfire at the Henry Lawson Cave in Bicentennial Reserve, Willoughby.

In commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of World War I, the poems chosen for the event were taken from the aspect of the Australian Diggers on their
experience of war.

Poems were read by Don Swonnell, Peter Carmody and Meg Covey, with music accompaniment from Derek Davies and Greg Dimmock, as well as famed bird mimic, Tim Thurston.

Audience members were invited to bring along a poem to read.

“The bi-annual Bush Poetry event is a wonderful source of community pride, where residents can gather to experience Willoughby’s local history and culture in the picturesque bushland of Bicentennial Reserve,” said Willoughby Mayor, Gail Giles-Gidney.

Henry Lawson Cave is located behind the Willoughby Leisure Centre.
