Cultural Diversity Week celebrations

Hobsons Bay City Council is celebrating Cultural Diversity Week with a week of fun and engaging cultural activities across the municipality from March 14 -22.

Co-chair of the Multicultural Advisory Committee Councillor Carl Marsich said this year Council invited a range of partners to host events to promote harmony, inclusion and belonging for all.

“With over a quarter of our residents born overseas, Hobsons Bay is both rich and proud of its cultural, linguistic and religious diversity.

“Cultural Diversity Week is just one way we can celebrate this as a community.”

Fellow co-chair Councillor Jason Price said the program has something to offer for everyone.

“There are cultural games, food tasting, dancing, arts and craft, a market, storytelling, activities for children, a community forum and a film screening.

“Come along, meet your neighbours, talk about your culture, hear people’s stories and most importantly have fun.”

The Mayor of Hobsons Bay Cr Colleen Gates will launch the Behind This Smile artwork and some inspiring stories developed as part of the Racism It Stops with Me campaign on Saturday March 14 at 3pm at Williamstown Library.

“I invite you to meet 12 local residents from diverse backgrounds who participated in the community art project and shared their stories.

“Come and be inspired by the artwork and see what’s behind their smiles.”

Cultural Diversity Week is celebrated in Victoria every year in March.
