FIFO in established resource communities has to stop

Isaac Regional Council Acting Mayor Dale Appleton said Isaac would not support any project that locks out local workers.

“We are opposed to 100 percent FIFO (Fly-In, Fly-Out) which forces locals and otherwise potential residents to move to larger centres or capital cities to take up these employment opportunities.

“In fact, state candidates representing three major parties were unanimous in their condemnation of 100 percent forced FIFO work practices in established communities.

“At the end of the day Queenslanders must have the choice on where they live and work, which means an end to 100 percent forced FIFO.”

One of the commitments made by Queensland Labor in their Strong andSustainable Resource Communities document was an end to 100 percent FIFO workforces for the operation of mines located near a regional centre or existing mining community.

All existing 100 percent FIFO arrangements would be reviewed within the first 100 days of a Queensland Labor Government.
