Construction underway on sewerage network

Work on the construction of a sewerage network for the industrial land development adjoining the Armidale Regional Airport is well underway.

Armidale Dumaresq Council has engaged Sydney firm Codmah Pty Ltd to construct a new sewage pumping station and 3.5kms of sewer pipelines plus two sewers under the New England Highway.

This will service the new industrial land estate adjoining the Armidale Regional Airport plus further expansion of the airport precinct.

Armidale Dumaresq Mayor Councillor Laurie Bishop says the work on the new sewerage network is a key piece of infrastructure in council’s plans for the redevelopment of the airport precinct.

“The contractors have set themselves an ambitious program to complete the works in April this year.

“They’re using large size equipment to trench in up to 200 metres of pipeline per day.

“Some of the pipes will be more than four metres underground.”

Last year council completed extensions of the town water main to the airport precinct and once the sewerage network is complete this will enable approximately 60 hectares of land to be serviced with water and sewer.

Council is also taking the opportunity to lay conduit for the NBN to the airport precinct.
