Libraries in the Fraser Coast Regional Council area will host free workshops for heritage organisations and residents interested in the preservation of war history, in particular from the First World War.
Niles Elvery, a collection specialist from State Library of Queensland, will present ‘Q ANZAC 100: Memories for a New Generation’ workshops at the Maryborough Library.
Councillor for Community, Heritage and Family Services George Seymour said the presentations will be fascinating.
“It is no secret that I am passionate about the preservation of history.
“These workshops will be able to assist our local heritage groups to build skills to make their First World War collections accessible and engaging online.
“And they will also provide guidance and advice to those who would like information on how to care for and share their own personal First World War collections and stories.”
The first two interactive workshops will be held for both the general public and heritage organisations.
Representatives from heritage organisations are then invited to participate in the following two workshops where they will explore social media options to encourage the telling of First World War stories.
“As Anzac Day approaches, these information sessions will also serve as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices that were made for our country,” Cr Seymour said.
