Roads roll out

The Hills Shire Council has reached two new milestones with the laying down of the Shire’s 1,000th kilometre of road and the completion of line marking for one of its wards.

Windon Avenue, in a newly released subdivision in Kellyville, was the lucky street to receive the landmark 1,000th stretch of road.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Councillor Andrew Jefferies, said that as development in new release areas progresses, Council continues to take on the management of many new assets, like roads, on behalf of the community.

“Ensuring that our new communities get the infrastructure they need for the future is one of my key commitments.

“One thousand kilometres of road shows that we are taking on our share of Sydney’s future growth.”

Mayor Jefferies said that as well as new infrastructure, refreshing existing infrastructure in more established suburbs is a high priority.

“Council uses an Automatic Road Analyser (ARAN) vehicle fitted with state-of-the-art cameras, sensors, gyroscopes, lasers, accelerometers and computers that collect scientific data and imagery about our existing local roads to more efficiently and effectively manage them.

“This allows us to make smarter choices when upgrading and repairing our roads.

“Council’s road line-marking program improves safety and I’m proud to announce that we have recently re-marked our roads across East Ward.
“North, Central, and West Wards will soon see re-marking in the near future.”
