From 1 May 2015, visitors to the Wollongong City Centre will be able to use a free mobile app to pay for parking in Council-managed metered spaces.
CellOPark is an easy and flexible method for people to pay for parking.
Users can register for the service at no cost online, over the phone, or via the free app in the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Once registered, people can use the app, phone the CellOPark call-to-park number, or go online to start and end parking sessions.
The system eliminates guesswork by ensuring motorists are only charged for the amount of time they park.
Multiple vehicles can be added to a single account, and users are billed monthly.
Parking Rangers will be able to check which vehicles are using the system electronically and in real time.
“We’re excited to be able to take advantage of this new technology for people to pay for parking in the City Centre,” said Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery OAM.
“CellOPark means you won’t have to print a ticket any more, and you can even use it to locate your car if you forget where you parked.”
Users can also choose to register for a premium service at a cost of $1.99 per vehicle per month, which includes unlimited SMS reminders when parking time is about to expire.
Starting in the first week of June, Council will also be removing the option for motorists to pay by credit card for all on-street parking spaces, as well as Council’s 2P and 3P car parks.
The option to pay by credit card will remain in 4P and 8P car parks.
