LEAF celebrates Logan’s green successes

Inspiration for a greener way of living has been found at this year’s Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF), with thousands of people enjoying the popular sustainable lifestyle event at Griffith University’s Logan Campus on Sunday May 31.

Live music, organic food, wildlife displays and children’s activities were just some of the attractions, and Logan City Council Parks, Health, Environment and Sustainability Committee Chairperson, Councillor Trevina Schwarz (Division 11), said the event espoused sustainability at its best.

“With a theme of ‘reducing avoidable waste’ this year, LEAF encouraged everyone to think about how they could live cleaner and greener in their everyday lives.

“The village-style atmosphere, with stalls, workshops and demonstrations, had a great vibe and you could see everyone having a fantastic time.”

The City of Logan’s greenest advocates were recognised during the event, as Council announced this year’s EnviroGrants recipients, as well as the winners of the Logan Eco Awards and the World Environment Day calendar competitions.

“Council has offered environmental grants to the community for 16 years now, resulting in collaborative partnerships that have brought significant benefits for Logan’s natural environment.

“This year, I’m proud to say we’ve funded 23 projects with just over $80,000 provided for local wildlife carers and environmental projects to be done by a range of organisations, community groups, schools and individuals.

“The World Environment Day calendar competition has also been popular with local school students, while the entrants in the Logan Eco Awards have shown us their green credentials as well.

“I’d like to congratulate everyone who was involved in LEAF, especially our award winners.

“We are immensely proud of our environmental contributions to South-East Queensland, especially in the lead-up to World Environment Day, being held on Friday 5 June.”
