The Australian Local Government Women’s Association (ALGWA) Victorian Branch has hosted its 2015 conference in Seymour on May 22 and 23.
The conference was held at the Seymour GOTAFE Campus and featured over a dozen different guest speakers and panelists.
Speakers included the inspirational 15-year-old Audrey Flannery, a broadcaster with Mitchell Community Radio and advocate for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Also speaking at the conference was the Hon Natalie Hutchins MP, Minister for Local Government, Industrial Relations and Aboriginal Affairs, who announced a $20,000 grant to develop a Business Plan and advance mentoring and support for the organisation.
Ms Hutchins said all tiers of government needed to work together to encourage more women to stand for local council roles.
“ALGWA and its passionate members have done a fantastic job in providing support to female councillors across the state, and our $20,000 grant will help them continue this important work.
“All levels of government need to work together to ensure women have an opportunity to represent their community.
“I look forward to seeing the progression of women on Victorian Government appointed boards, and specifically Local Government Councillors, Mayoral and CEO appointments.”
