Community members to drive SA development

Community volunteers are being sought to join Regional Development Australia (RDA) Boards in South Australia.

The RDA is a national network of Boards made up of local people volunteering their time and energy to develop solutions to local issues.

Roles that currently need to be filled include Chair positions in RDA Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island and RDA Yorke and Mid North, as well as the Deputy Chair position in RDA Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Warren Truss, said regional economic growth requires a concerted effort from government and community groups.

“We need people with the skills, experience and knowledge to build networks within the business community, education sector, local industry and all levels of government to help drive regional economic development.

“The Australian Government is committed to revitalising the South Australian economy and delivering strong growth for all regional Australians.”

South Australian Minister for Regional Development, Geoff Brock, said the input of locals was essential to delivering strong outcomes for communities.

“Board members will work with their communities to progress economic development and infrastructure projects which have been identified as priorities and will support the long term economic growth of regions.

“People with deep knowledge of the local area will be essential in addressing local issues.”

President of the Local Government Association of South Australia, Dave Burgess, said he would encourage all high-quality applicants to apply.

“Expressions of Interest are sought from community minded individuals to volunteer as community advocates and make a difference to our regional areas.

“Community members with commitment, strong leadership skills and a vision for their region are encouraged to submit Expressions of Interest by Friday 28 August 2015.”

Further information, including an Expression of Interest form and information booklet, can be found at www.rda.gov.au or by contacting 1800 505 938 (Mon–Fri 9am–5pm AEST) or rdaeoi@infrastructure.gov.au.
