First electronic planning lodgement lands

The first electronic planning application lodgement has landed at Tweed Shire Council, a major milestone in the journey towards ‘paperless’ planning.

Tweed Shire Council customers are no longer required to lodge development and construction applications in hard copy form, with only electronic lodgements accepted for most applications.

Council’s Director Planning and Regulation, Vince Connell, said e-Planning has come a long way at Tweed Shire Council since the initial introduction of electronic lodgements for Development Applications (DAs) in 2009.

This was an important step at the time, as it allowed the documents to be uploaded to the DA Tracker service on Council’s website.

“There are many benefits in using technology in the DA process, as it leads to a less expensive and quicker process for our customers.

“As we move further along the road of e-planning, we are reducing costs for applicants and improving the efficiency of our development assessment processes.

“It’s more efficient for our staff too, as they no longer have to create hard copy files and use the latest electronic tools to assess and determine applications.

“It’s also great to be using less paper, as that’s a win for the environment.”
