To help address low rates of indigenous literacy in remote communities, Hobsons Bay City Council’s library service, together with the Friends of Williamstown and Newport Libraries, will host a book sale to raise funds on Saturday 12 September.
This is the fifth year the Indigenous Literacy Project Book Sale will be held and all proceeds will go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
To coincide with this year’s sale, children, families and other community members are invited to Hobsons Bay’s first aboriginal story time, presented by Aboriginal cultural practitioner Eva Jo Edwards.
Eva Jo Edwards will tell traditional and contemporary stories from Aboriginal nations using spoken word, dance and face painting.
Guests can enjoy the telling of Bilargun and Daroo Platypus, Tiddalick the Frog and other Dreamtime stories at this special story time.
All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Project to support early literacy projects in remote communities.
Last year’s book sale raised more than $1300.
