The Fairfield Youth and Community Centre celebrated its official opening last month, providing a major expansion to Fairfield City Council’s community services.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said the Australian Government is pleased to have partnered with Council and private enterprise to deliver the $9.9 million project.
“The Australian Government contributed $7.3 million towards the project which will boost community services in Fairfield, demonstrating the Australian Government’s commitment to providing better support for local residents.”
Senator for Western Sydney, the Hon Marise Payne, attended the opening and said the hub will deliver vital educational, vocational and social activities for local youth and the wider community.
“The centre will be an exciting place for young people to meet and will provide them with an array of activities and recreational space. The new facilities will also provide young people a safe haven, off the streets, for meeting and interacting.”
Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone said he was proud that the project is complete and the youth and greater community can enjoy the new centre.
“The Fairfield Youth and Community Centre is a huge, much needed asset for our community, designed by youth for youth.
“This is a vital part of the larger Fairfield Park precinct, which also includes the Fairfield Adventure Park and surrounding facilities and parklands – I look forward to seeing this modern facility being used by all.”
The new Fairfield Youth and Community Centre was funded with $7.3 million from the Australian Government, $2.3 million from the Fairfield City Council and a $250,000 contribution from the Mount Pritchard & District Community Club Limited.
