Seven students from La Trobe University Bendigo are working with the City of Greater Bendigo’s Economic Development Unit to update one of the City’s key business resources.
City of Greater Bendigo Business Development Manager, Peter Jeffery, said the second and third year Strategic Communications students are currently working closely with staff from the Economic Development Unit to upgrade the ‘Navigating the Business Networks’ booklet.
“Navigating the Networks is an important resource that was originally developed by the City some years ago for local businesses to connect with other businesses and organisations,” Mr Jeffrey said.
“The document was in need of an update and the City chose to work with students for this project as it helped us to upgrade a key resource, while at the same time providing the students with hands on, practical experience in a professional environment that many may not get the chance to do while
at University.
“It’s a community responsibility to provide opportunities for students to engage with real life experience and the City has been pleased to work on this project with them – it’s one of the best forms of getting them work ready.”
He said in addition to updating the document the students are also creating a case study to show businesses and other government bodies how the City of Greater Bendigo and the students worked together to complete the project.
Student Willa Whitewolf said the students are enjoying their time with the City and are excited to see the finished Navigating the Networks document that they have worked hard on.
“We are very grateful to the City of Greater Bendigo for giving us this opportunity to gain some real work experience.”
