Pop-up health support

A new podiatry and diabetes education program will join a number of regular Free Pop-up Support services that are available to residents in the Willagee community.

Since its introduction a year ago, Willagee’s Free Pop-up Support services, which started initially on a three month trial basis, have been well attended by the local community who benefit from easy access to health, housing and welfare services, with the Pop-up service model itself, developing further and attracting new services.

City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said as a changing suburb undergoing revitalisation, the addition of the Moorditj Djena ‘Strong Feet’ program to the Free Pop-Up Support service would further contribute towards the wellbeing of the Willagee community.

“The primary objective of the Moorditj Djena program is to increase access to podiatry and diabetes services which are culturally appropriate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the Perth metro area and aims to help keep their feet healthy and strong, especially those at high risk of foot complications as a result of chronic disease.”

To launch Moorditj Djena at Willagee Free Pop-up Support, a Lifeline coffee van and free brekky burgers will be available from 10.00am on Monday, 15 February 2016 and following that will ‘pop-up’ on the third Monday of every month.

Mayor Aubrey said, “By bringing these important services directly to the community we aim to improve not just the physical and aesthetic quality of place in Willagee, but most importantly the quality of life for its families and community.”

The Freo Street Doctor and Palmerston Association also provide their free services as part of the Free Pop-Up Support service in Willagee. No bookings are required and the service is centrally located between Willagee Community Centre and Willagee Library, Archibald Street (corner Winnacott Street), Willagee.
