Road safety calendar

A group of NSW councils have produced a calendar that promotes road safety and takes a roadtrip into the past.

Everyone can benefit from a refresher every now and then, especially where road rules are concerned.  A unique calendar that is free to the local community aims to remind drivers about road safety and staying safe while driving on NSW roads.

The Road Safety Calendar 2016, is a Council collaboration between Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai, Lane Cove, Manly, North Sydney, Pittwater, Ryde, Warringah and Willoughby, and features a compilation of driving safety messages and amazing imagery.

Each month showcases historical photographs merged with images from today, to bring you an artistically inspired calendar filled with colour, former times and fascinating facts.  Important road safety topics such: as drink/drug driving; children and traffic; driving distractions (eg phone use); special events; driving, roadworks and general parking rules are covered. It also lists useful contacts and other driving tips.

Residents will be transported back in time as they compare photos of the past and present. Local areas featured include the opening of De Burgh’s Bridge (North Ryde), Neutral Bay Junction, Chatswood Transport Interchange, Pacific Highway Turramurra, Coronation Street Hornsby, Grandview Parade Newport and The Oaks Mosman.

First produced in 2001, the calendar was originally targeted to senior drivers aged 60 and over, however, this year for the first time, it has been expanded to accommodate drivers of all ages on NSW roads.
