2016 National Awards for Local Government (the Awards)*

The 2016 National Awards for Local Government (the Awards) opened for entry on Monday 1 February and will remain open for entries until 4 March 2016.  Enter your project today at www.infrastructure.gov.au/nalg.

The Awards celebrate the pivotal role that local government plays in bringing communities together and finding local solutions to local problems. As the closest tier of government to their community, local government service delivery is crucial to the social and economic development of regional Australia.  This includes much of the physical infrastructure and many of the services that are essential to the daily life of their citizens, their homes, businesses and workplaces.

The Awards are an opportunity for local government to showcase and share some of the outstanding examples of local government innovation at work.  Previous Category and National Award winners acknowledge the considerable benefits of being recognised through the National Awards for Local Government.  Past winners have increased their profiles and that of their councils, as well as further expanding their programs and enhancing networking opportunities.

The 2016 Category Winners will be announced in mid-April.  Category Winners will be presented with their awards and the winner of the National Award for Excellence in Local Government will be announced at presentation ceremonies to be held at Parliament House, Canberra on Tuesday 21 June 2016.

Further information on the Awards and the nomination process is at www.infrastructure.gov.au/nalg.
