Whitsunday Regional Council has obtained funding under the Queensland Government’s $2.5 million First Start Program to launch a traineeship program. Mayor Jenny Whitney said the program would enable Council to recruit seven local jobseekers across Council’s Bowen, Cannonvale, Collinsville and Proserpine operations.
“As part of its broader Working for Queensland jobs plan, the Queensland Government has reinstated the highly successful Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative and First Start program.
“The First Start program aims to provide young people and disadvantaged job seekers with an opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification by undertaking a subsidised traineeship in local government,” she said.
“Council has been successful in obtaining funding under this program to recruit seven trainees, who will complete a TAFE certificate while gaining invaluable workplace experience in
our organisation.”
