The City of South Perth bolstered Australia Day celebrations with a new solar CCTV unit.
This year’s Australia Day celebrations attracted a record crowd of over 70,000 people at the City of South Perth’s Celebration Zone, supported by Lotterywest on Sir James Mitchell Park.
Security was improved for the event this year with Downer Group supplying the City a solar CCTV unit – a fully self-sufficient unit that uses solar panels to power the cameras, storage, and communications, without the need for generators, power cables or permanent infrastructure.
The City was able to log into the CCTV system using either a laptop, tablet or mobile phone to view and control the cameras from anywhere with mobile phone coverage. High definition PTZ cameras were mounted to the top of the hydraulically operated rotatable mast for a 360° view of the area.
Ranger Services Coordinator Dene Lawrence said, “The CCTV trailer used on Australia Day was very easy to set up and was deployed in a matter of minutes by only one person.
“Remote login via 4G meant that live images were readily accessible 24 hours a day from anywhere with phone coverage.”
The City plans to utilize more of these units in the future for its outdoor public events.
