Residents of the City of Albany are encouraged to get to know their neighbours as the City celebrates Neighbour Day on 27 March.
City of Albany Community Development Officer Rani Param said Albany residents should take the opportunity to host an event and build a sense of community within their neighbourhood.
“The event doesn’t have to be large-scale or elaborate, it could just be a couple of sausages on the barbeque with your surrounding neighbours.”
Neighbour Day was created by Andrew Heslop in 2003 after the remains of an elderly woman were found inside her home two years after she had passed away. Neighbour Day is now celebrated annually across Australia on the last Sunday of March.
“We hope to strengthen communities and build better relationships with people who live around us and create safer, healthier and more vibrant suburbs and towns,” Param said.
“The City of Albany will be providing free resources including an events guide, printed invitations and wheelie bin cricket wicket stickers for registered Neighbour Day events.”
Community groups and non-profit organisations may be eligible for a limited number of $100 food vouchers to assist with their event.
